The DJI Matrice 5TD is the aircraft for DJI Dock 4. It launched with the dock on 14 October 2026 and is flown remotely through DJI FlightHub 2, with no pilot on site.
Can I fly the Matrice 5TD with a remote controller?
Not for everyday flying. DJI doesn't support manual flights with a controller. It has announced a limited emergency controller mode for the DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise, delivered by firmware update, but that's for emergencies rather than normal use. If you want a dock aircraft you can also fly by hand, the Matrice 4TD with Dock 3 still offers that.
Which dock does it work with?
DJI Dock 4. Dock 3 stays paired with the Matrice 4D and 4TD, so if you run Dock 3 today, moving to the 5TD means moving to Dock 4 as well. Dock 4 and Matrice 5TD vs Dock 3 and Matrice 4TD compares the two systems.
What cameras does it have?
Everything sits on one gimbal. There are three 50 MP visible cameras: a 1/0.98-inch wide camera (23.5 mm equivalent), a 1/1.28-inch medium tele (70 mm) and a 1/1.5-inch tele (252 mm). The tele gives you about 11× zoom optically and up to 176× hybrid zoom. Alongside those are a thermal camera and a laser rangefinder.
How good is the thermal camera?
It's a native 1280 × 1024 sensor with 8 μm pixels and an f/0.85 lens, and it can output 2560 × 2048 in UHR infrared mode. That's four times the pixel count of the Matrice 4TD's 640 × 512 sensor. It measures from -40°C to 150°C in high gain mode, accurate to ±2°C or ±2%, and from 0°C to 550°C in low gain mode, accurate to ±5°C or ±3% (whichever is greater in each case). Digital zoom goes up to 32×.
How far can the laser rangefinder measure?
Up to 3,000 m straight on and 1,200 m at an oblique angle, measured against a target with 25% reflectivity in good visibility. The blind zone is 1 m.
What's the flight time?
DJI quotes up to 59 minutes in flight and 55 minutes hovering. Those are lab figures, taken with no payload at 15 m/s in still air, so plan for less in real conditions, particularly with accessories fitted. Top speed is 21 m/s on FlyTo tasks and 15 m/s otherwise.
What's the transmission range in the UK?
Up to 12 km under the CE rules that apply here, with no obstructions or interference. You'll see 40 km quoted in a lot of launch material, but that's the IC figure for Canada. The aircraft also has two built-in 4G modules, so it can use mobile data alongside the radio link.
Is it weatherproof?
The aircraft is rated IP55, works from -40°C to 50°C and handles wind up to 12 m/s. The dock is rated IP56.
What obstacle sensing does it have?
Omnidirectional vision sensors, a horizontal rotating LiDAR with a standard range of 110 m, a downward 3D infrared sensor and mmWave radar facing forwards, up and down. On the Matrice 4TD the LiDAR and radar were an optional add-on. Here they're built in.
What can its onboard AI detect?
DJI says it recognises 17 types of object in real time, including people, vehicles, smoke, fire and some animals, and you can filter people and vehicles by colour.
Can it carry a speaker or spotlight?
Yes. It has three accessory mounts, two on the sides and one on top, which use the Matrice 5TD Accessory Mount. The total accessory limit is 450 g. The AS2D speaker is 30 W, reaches 400 m and fits on the left. The AL2D spotlight has a 40 W spotlight and an 18 W floodlight, tilts up to +90° and fits on the right. When the spotlight is on, the visual obstacle sensors switch off and the aircraft relies on LiDAR and radar, so plan routes with that in mind.
Does it come with a parachute?
The Matrice 5TD is sold as a combo with the DJI AP1 parachute and the DJI O4 Ground Station, which Dock 4 needs to run. The parachute mounts on top of the aircraft. DJI lists EU C5 and C6 certification for the Matrice 5TD and says that with the AP1 fitted it meets the UK5 and UK6 requirements too. A class mark doesn't replace a CAA operational authorisation for most dock work, so talk to us before you plan your operation.
What batteries does it use?
A 260 Wh battery that weighs 925 g and is rated for 400 cycles. Batteries aren't included in the combo. A full set is four: one in the aircraft and three in the dock. DJI Dock 4 batteries: how many you need, swapping and power cuts explains swapping, charging and what happens in a power cut.
How often does it need maintenance?
Basic maintenance every 6 months, regular maintenance every 12 months or 500 flight hours, and deep maintenance every 36 months or 1,000 flight hours. See Maintaining the DJI Matrice 5TD for what each one involves.
Where can I find the manuals?
The user manual, quick start guides, installation manual and maintenance manual are on DJI's Dock 4 downloads page.
How do I buy one?
Call our enterprise team on 0330 111 7177 or see the Matrice 5TD page on our website. The price depends on how many docks and batteries you need and the support you want, so we'll put a quote together for you. Ask about current lead times when you do.
