DJI Matrice 5T FAQ

Cameras, thermal, flight time, range, accessories, batteries and buying information for the DJI Matrice 5T.

The DJI Matrice 5T is DJI's new thermal enterprise drone for emergency response, inspection and surveying, launched on 5 November 2026. It's flown by a pilot with a remote controller.

What's the difference between the Matrice 5T and the Matrice 5TD?

The 5T is flown by a pilot with the DJI RC Plus 3 Enterprise. The 5TD is the dock version: it lives in DJI Dock 4 and can't be flown by hand. Matrice 5T or Matrice 5TD: which one do I need? compares them in full.

What's changed from the Matrice 4T?

Higher resolution thermal, longer laser range, an IP55 rating, 10 more minutes of flight time and a much bigger battery, among other things. Matrice 5T vs Matrice 4T: what's changed? goes through each upgrade.

What cameras does it have?

A 1280 × 1024 thermal camera with a UHR mode that outputs 2560 × 2048, and three 50 MP visible cameras: a 1/0.98-inch wide, a 3× medium tele and an 11× telephoto, with up to 176× hybrid zoom. There's also a 3 km laser rangefinder and an NIR auxiliary light. You can view thermal and visible feeds as a fused image or side by side in split screen.

Can it see at night?

Yes. The wide camera gives full-colour night vision down to 0.01 lux, and the telephoto switches to black and white night vision in very low light. The NIR auxiliary light helps the telephoto pick out detail in the dark.

How long does it fly?

Up to 59 minutes, measured by DJI in a wind tunnel with no payload. Real flights will be shorter, especially with accessories fitted or in cold weather. Top speed is 23 m/s, and DJI says it can be airborne around 10 seconds after power-on.

How big is it?

It weighs 2,239 g with the battery and propellers fitted. The arms fold for transport, bringing it down to 335 × 155 × 203 mm.

What's the range in the UK?

Up to 20 km under CE rules, with no obstructions or interference. The 40 km figure in DJI's launch material only applies under IC rules, in Canada. Interference cuts that down: DJI's CE figures are roughly 7 to 20 km in open, remote areas, 3 to 7 km around suburbs and parks, and 0.7 to 3 km among dense buildings.

The 5T also has two built-in 4G modules, taking one eSIM and one nano-SIM, and relay modes that help keep the link when hills or buildings get in the way.

Is it weatherproof?

It's rated IP55 and works from -20°C to 50°C.

What obstacle sensing does it have?

A 360° rotating LiDAR, mmWave radar facing forwards, up and down, and omnidirectional vision sensors that work in full colour. DJI says the LiDAR picks up a 21.6 mm power line at 32 m, or a thinner 11 mm insulated wire at 19 m. It also has ADS-B and Remote ID receivers, so it can warn you about crewed aircraft and other drones nearby.

What can the onboard AI detect?

More than 20 types of object. In visible light that includes people and the colour of their clothing, vehicle and vessel types, animals, smoke and fire. In thermal it picks out people, vehicles and vessels. It can analyse both feeds at once, the onboard computing is open to third-party AI models, and it works with DJI FlightHub 2 for multimodal detection.

Can I use it for mapping?

Yes. The wide camera is time-synced with the positioning data, and DJI Terra corrects for its electronic shutter. It also supports 2D thermal mapping with temperature measurement, close-range photogrammetry, and quick mapping on the controller during flight, where around 200 photos become a map in about 8 minutes. It doesn't have a mechanical shutter, so for dedicated survey work the Matrice 4E is still the better tool.

Can it take off from a boat?

Yes, from moving or stationary vessels. Keep the vessel below 10 knots and the wind below 5 m/s, and clear a 3 m × 3 m area on deck. It uses the same landing marker as the Matrice 400.

What accessories are there?

The AS2 speaker is 35 W, reaches up to 120 dB at 1 m and broadcasts up to 400 m, with built-in strobe lights in five colours. The AL2 spotlight is 60 W with separate flood and spot modes, and it tilts from -90° to +90° so you can light a structure from directly below. The aircraft carries up to 400 g of accessories across its three ports.

Accessories are sold separately, and the Matrice 5TD's AS2D and AL2D are different products, so check you're ordering the right ones.

What batteries does it use?

The DJI Matrice 5 Series Battery: 215.2 Wh, 768 g and rated for 200 charge cycles. It charges between 5°C and 40°C. The 515 W charging hub charges three batteries in turn, and DJI says three are enough for continuous flying in typical conditions.

At over 160 Wh, these batteries can't go on a passenger flight and they ship as fully regulated dangerous goods, so plan ahead if you travel for work.

Does it support Pilot 2 plugins?

Yes. Third-party plugins in DJI Pilot 2 let you build your own workflows, such as adding third-party flight routes or bringing outside data into a search.

Does it come with DJI Care?

DJI's launch material lists the first year of DJI Care Enterprise Plus free, covering repairs within the coverage limit, water damage, flyaway and battery replacement. We'll confirm the terms when you order.
