The General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC) is the qualification required to apply for a CAA Operational Authorisation under UKPDRA-01.
UKPDRA-01 covers VLOS flights in the Specific Category, allowing UAS operations in congested areas with aircraft weighing up to 25 kg, provided certain conditions are met.
To get a GVC, you must complete approved theory training and a flight assessment through a Recognised Assessment Entity (RAE) such as Coptrz.
The GVC is being phased out
The CAA will stop issuing new GVCs on 31 December 2027, and the RPC-L1 is replacing it as the baseline qualification for Specific Category VLOS operations. Existing GVCs remain valid until they expire.
