To operate in the Specific Category, a remote pilot must hold an appropriate Remote Pilot Certificate or General Visual Line of Sight Certificate.
RPC-L1 Part A is the required pilot competency certificate for Visual Line of Sight operations under an Operational Authorisation.
RPC-L1 Part B is the required pilot competency certificate for Beyond Visual Line of Sight with Visual Mitigation operations under an Operational Authorisation.
The GVC is currently still an accepted certificate for conducting flights in the Specific Category. However, the CAA is phasing out the GVC qualification, and no new GVC certificates will be issued from 1st January 2028. Existing GVC certificates will remain valid until their current expiry date.
