Step 1: Check Your Certificate Status
If your A2 CofC has already expired
You cannot renew. You must complete and pay for a full A2 CofC course. A renewal can only be carried out if the course was booked while your certificate was still valid.If your A2 CofC will expire within 6 months
You are eligible to begin the renewal process. Renewal exams cannot be taken earlier than six months before your expiry date.If your A2 CofC does not expire within 6 months
You are not yet eligible to renew.
Step 2: Declaration of Competence & Documentation Review
To renew your A2 CofC, you must provide a declaration of competence and provide the following evidence:
Proof of Identity β A valid form of ID such as a driving licence or passport.
Current A2 CofC Certificate β This must be valid at the time of booking. If your certificate shows an old Flyer ID, you will need to show both your current valid Flyer ID and proof of the old one.
Valid Flyer ID β Issued by the CAA.
Flight Logs β Evidence of recent flying activity showing at least 2 hours of flight time in the 90 days before your renewal application. The logs should include at minimum:
Date
Operator name and Operator ID
Remote Pilot name and Flyer ID
Operating category or authorisation
Location, start and end time
UAS type, make, model, serial number and take-off mass
Flight time for each flight and cumulative totals
Step 3: Theory Exam
You must pass an A2 CofC theory exam to complete the renewal.
If you pass
You will receive a new A2 CofC certificate. The renewed certificate will be valid for 5 years from the expiry date of your current certificate.If you fail
You must complete an A2 CofC theory course before retaking the exam. Retakes are set with an alternative question paper.Exam attempts
You may attempt the theory exam up to 5 times. If you pass, you will be issued a renewed A2 CofC valid for 5 years.If you fail 5 times
You will need to purchase and complete a full A2 CofC course as if you were a new candidate.
